To date, the PMSEA accomplishments are as follows:
1. Holding of the Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) with the following activities:
◦ Safety competitions among companies to showcase their capabilities on Emergency Response and Preparedness such as mine rescue, first aid, timbering, machine and hand drilling, pipe fitting and fire fighting, among others.
◦ Symposia/workshops as a venue for stakeholder’s interaction and sharing of expertise on current laws, technology, safety, health, environment and social development.
◦ Bestowing of awards/recognition on best practices in environmental protection and rehabilitation, safety and health and social development from the PMIEA, safety awards and best mining forest.
2. Sponsor the conduct of symposia/workshops, consultations and trainings related to mine safety, health, environmental protection and social development.
3. Conduct of Regional Mine Safety and Environment Conferences (RMSECs). The RMSEC aimed to replicate the ANMSEC and to bring the promotion of safety, health, environmental and social awareness to the grass root level.
4. Supported the Green Philippine Highways Program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
5. Safety Networking Action Program (SNAP) The Program was launched on September 4, 2003 with the primary objective of advocating and integrating approaches to prevention, preparedness and emergency response to natural and man-made emergencies in support of government’s disaster and coordination program,
About twenty eight (28) companies and professional organizations had enlisted to support the SNAP.
To date, SNAP has achieved the following accomplishments:
◦ Signed MOA with NDCD-CC and PNRC together with the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines to ensure that the operational aspect of the SNAP shall fit in with the organizational framework of the NDCD-OCC.
◦ Signed MOA with PNRC together with CMP which provides for the sharing of expertise on disaster management and coordination of blood donations and medical missions.
◦ Provided assistance during the Leyte landslide in December, 2003 and February 2006.
◦ Provided mine rescue and recovery teams, medical, financial and relief assistance during the series of typhoon that hit Luzon in December 2004.
◦ Provided rescue and recovery assistance during the Diwalwal incident in October 2005.
◦ Provided rescue and recovery assistance during the Guinsaugon, Leyte landslide
AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS:
• The PMSEA was chosen as one of the recipients of the Gawad Kalasag Award on October 18, 2004 at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City. A Plaque of Appreciation was conferred to the association in recognition of its active promotion of disaster preparedness initiatives and assistance provided to NDCC in disaster management.
• The Philippine National Red Cross bestowed the Regional Sandugo Award on July 21, 2005 for the medical and dental missions rendered during the 51st Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference in Baguio City.
