The Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) is an organization of mining companies, quarries, cement plants, suppliers, service contractors, professional organizations and government agencies that advocates a national campaign against occupational safety, health and environmental hazards of mining and its related operations. One of the projects of the association is the Safety Networking Action Program (SNAP) that was launched in September 2003. The SNAP provides an integral approach to prevention, preparedness and emergency response to natural and man-made emergencies in support to the national government’s disaster and coordination program. The project has been put into action several times during emergencies such as landslides and typhoons.
VISION The Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association shall be the forerunner in the promotion of occupational safety and health, sound environmental management and social responsibility in the Mineral Industry.
MISSION To promote the advancement of the Philippine Minerals Industry in the fields of occupational safety and health, environmental protection and social development consciousness through collaborative efforts of the industry, government, non-government organizations and other agencies.
KEY OBJECTIVES The Association is committed to assist its members and the Philippine Minerals Industry to achieve the following :
- excellent environmental, safety and health performance; - a well informed community that appreciates the advantages and significance of the minerals sector to economic growth;
- a self-regulated minerals industry through the establishment of safety culture, environmental responsibility and social responsibility;
- a profitable and internationally competitive minerals industry.
PLANS AND PROGRAMS - to institute internal restructuring of the Association to pursue its plans and programs;
- to promote environmental protection, health, sanitation and accident prevention in mining, quarrying, metallurgical processing and related industries;
- to promote the doctrines of safety and conservation of life and property in those industries;
- to provide the mines with dependable source of competent, well equipped emergency rescue and recovery teams to respond in short notice during mine and other disasters and emergencies;
-to collaborate with other organizations whether local or international in accident prevention campaign and awareness in environmental management;
- initiate, conduct and promote research on new technologies that would enhance the capability of the minerals industry in accident prevention and environmental protection;
- to vigorously conduct workshops, seminars, training information and communication campaigns in the promotion of mine environmental protection, safety and health;
- to develop a pool of competent third party auditors on safety, health and environmental programs;
- to strengthen industry-government partnership and establish a strong local and international linkages.
